Auroras ASAP Garage Door Service repairs residential and commercial garage doors across Aurora, Denver and the south metro, seven days a week. Call (303) 985-7942 and a person picks up, takes the symptom, and gives you an arrival window on that call. Most repairs we run are one of five failures: a broken torsion spring, a frayed or snapped lift cable, worn rollers and bent track, an opener that reverses or hums without moving, or a door knocked off its track by a bumper.
A garage door is the largest moving object in a house, and almost every part of it is under load. That is why we diagnose the whole system before quoting: replacing a spring on a door whose cables are already frayed just moves the failure three weeks down the calendar.
What people call us about
- A loud bang from the garage, and now the door will not lift
- The opener runs but the door does not move
- The door goes up a foot and reverses back down
- One side hangs lower than the other, and the door looks crooked in the opening
- Grinding, scraping or popping on the way up
- The door closes, touches the floor, then opens again on its own
- A gap at the bottom that daylight, snow or mice come through
How we diagnose a garage door, start to finish
Every visit starts with the door disconnected from the opener and lifted by hand. A correctly balanced door stops wherever you leave it, roughly waist high. If it drops, the spring has lost tension or broken; if it will not budge, the spring is gone or a cable has jumped its drum. That one test separates a door problem from an opener problem in under a minute, and it decides everything that follows.
From there we check the spring for a visible gap in the coil, run the cables from drum to bottom bracket looking for broken strands, spin each roller by hand, sight down the vertical track for bends, and test the opener's force settings and photo-eye alignment. You get told what failed, what caused it, and what it costs before any part comes off the truck.
- Balance and spring test Door off the opener, lifted by hand, checked for drift and for a gap in the spring coil.
- Cable and drum inspection Both lift cables followed end to end for fraying, and the drums checked for even wrap.
- Roller, hinge and track check Worn stems, cracked nylon, loose hinge bolts and bent track flanges all show up here.
- Opener and safety check Force and travel limits, photo-eye alignment, and the reversal test with an obstruction on the floor.
What Colorado weather does to a garage door
Front Range doors fail on a schedule the weather sets. Steel springs lose a little flexibility in deep cold, so the morning after the first hard freeze is reliably one of our busiest of the year: a spring that was already near the end of its cycle life gives out on the first cold cycle. Grease that was fine in September stiffens, rollers drag, and an opener set to a comfortable force in warm weather starts reading that drag as an obstruction and reverses the door.
Hail is the other one. A storm that leaves a roof untouched will dent 25-gauge steel panels, and a creased panel binds in the track long after the storm has passed. Road salt and magnesium chloride coat the outside of the bottom section, and the salty slush that drips off a car pools on the slab at the threshold, which is where rust starts on most metro doors.
Repair or replace: how we tell you the difference
Most doors are worth repairing. A spring, a pair of cables, a set of rollers and an opener board are all routine parts, and a well-built door outlives several of each. We will tell you plainly when that stops being true: when the panels are rusted through at the bottom section, when a discontinued profile means a single panel costs most of a new door, or when a door has been hit hard enough to twist the end stiles out of square.
If a replacement genuinely costs less than the repair, we say so on the visit rather than selling you a repair first. That conversation belongs on the driveway, not in a follow-up quote.
